God-Given Light

June 30, 2015 - India

How does God see India? It’s the second day of orientation and I am caught in the words of our speaker Daniel. I have no idea what these next weeks will bring. Pain? Joy? Anger? Hope? Awakening? Light. That’s the word God keeps giving me. Before this trip, my roommate saw a vision of light erupting in a town. God tells me that even in a place of despair, His light is shining brightly. I want to have open eyes to see it and an open heart to respond to it.

Revelation 21:23:
The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

As I ponder looking for light in India, I see God’s light here during our orientation in Thailand. I see it in the beauty of the red flowers on the tree behind the guest house. I see love in the faces of the Thai people. “Korb Kuhn Ka,” (thank you) we say as they hand us pad kee mao. I see kindness in the ladies who make us Thai iced tea with their bright smiles. I see God in every conversation, orientation session, manuscript study, and simulation. But mostly I see light in each Trekker. My India teammates bring their unique gifts and talents. I already see us melding into a family. In the midst of Emily’s delayed visa and Christine’s lost passport, we were drawn together. We sat around Christine praying for favor of the embassy employees. We listened to the visa hardship Emily went through. When we found out both were able to come to India, we rejoiced. God gave Christine and Emily a blessed detour.

While Janell and Chelsea stepped up, we trusted them (and God) to teach us how to get around in India. The 12 disciples: Ryan, Michelle, Keziah, Kenzie, Janell, Gabby, Esther, Emily, Christine, Chelsea, Chandler, Alyssa. I am blown away by the ways God has touched us, taught us, forgiven us, and spoken to us. I can’t wait to see what the next five weeks in India will bring. I eagerly anticipate encountering God’s light there. How is God inviting us to be part of His light in India? To be discovered.
